Eight Plates

Recently opened on Trafalgar Street, Eight Plates is already a local favourite.

Located within the resplendent surrounds of a restored heritage building, this smart-casual fine dining restaurant in Nelson is equipped with two outdoor al fresco areas, upstairs dining with a cathedral view, and private rooms for your special group occasion, making it a dynamic venue for both casual and special outings. You’ll find it opposite the Cathedral Steps.

Whether date night or just a casual dinner with friends, Eight Plates offers an inviting and vibrant space to enjoy dishes like House flatbread with pumpkin and caramelised onion, Ora King salmon pâté with pickled celery and house brioche, and a mouthwatering cut of ribeye served with crispy onion and mushroom butter. Or if you're after a smaller nibble, wedges of local cheese served with lavosh and seasonal fruit chutney are just a taste of what can be enjoyed at your next visit.

The restaurant is managed by Pete Coates, a former bar manager well-known for his expertise in cocktails and wines. His list offers a collection of favourites from around the region and abroad, each carefully chosen to match the seasonal shared plates. Pete serves the drinks we all know and love, but adds something special that he makes himself. We highly recommend trying one of his craft cocktails.
