A farm-to-plate dining experience in the middle of the city, Number 8 Wire is putting Rotorua back on the map.
Yes, Rotorua might be known for its thermal waters and mud baths, but it also has a lot to offer when it comes to food! Which is why we're all here, of course. And they're keeping their farm-to-plate ethos at the centre of all of their operations, right down to the decor itself. Communal tables sit amongst abundant shrubbery that is complimented by a trio of stag heads above the bar. It's homey, approachable and, thanks to their communal dining concept, always alive with chatter.
As for the food, let's start with the gifts of the land. Here you'll find the finest tomahawk rib eye, sirloin and beef eye fillet, all of which come from Takapoto Estate. As for stunning cuts of lamb, Hawkes Bay is serving up the goods with grass-fed rump and rack with an array of local sides and heaps of creamy mash.
Away from the grill, you can find market fish of the day with a crispy potato gratin, as well as a tender goat curry that simply explodes with fresh spices and Indian flavours. And whilst it might be tempting to call that a day, you can always find room for a traditional steam pudding with a generous dollop of whipped cream. Just don't leave this very important decision down to the wire!
