A world class dining experience, Rātā was opened in 2012 by passionate locals who created an experience that was uniquely Queenstown and the southern region, a reflection of the environment and abundance of produce surrounding us. Rātā’s food is edgy and adventurous.
A modern, light-filled eatery tucked away in the centre of bustling Queenstown, surrounded by an urban forest of native trees with a backdrop of some of the region's oldest historic buildings. It is the essence of New Zealand.
The menu changes on any given day. Rata loves modernising Kiwi classics, to start with delicious snacks of potato and burnt butter rosti with kiwi dip and chives. The “kiwi dip" is every Kiwi childhood memory. Artisan sourdough made with Speight's beer and served with rich umami marmite butter, followed by starters of Ruakākā kingfish crudo, pickled nashi pear, dashi, mains of Royalburn lamb, off the Crown Range and blue cod fresh from the Southern Ocean.
The produce is expertly sourced ‘just up the road’, showcasing the best of the South in an unfailingly delicious way. In a world where nothing falls short of perfection, this restaurant reigns supreme.
