Romulus & Remus

A spacious, atmospheric eatery inspired by the city of Rome, both ancient and the bustling metropolis it is today, Romulus & Remus is a love letter to the Italian capital in all its delicious glory.

Keeping things simple yet stylish, the restaurant is warm and welcoming - with high ceilings, recycled timber in the beams and the bar, remnants of industrial concrete softened by tones of worn Roman gold and extra virgin olive oil green. Split over two levels - a piazza like porch (the floor hand-painted by the owner with a large tile design), and up a few stairs to the dining room where a sculpture of the intriguing mythical wolf and her boys overlook the comings and goings of the kitchen and bar.

This is a place to be savoured; rushing is not part of the agenda. So, make the most of it with an aperitivo (limoncello spritz anyone?) and spuntino snacks - the humble pork and fennel sausage with fried bread, or keep it light with their cannellini bean dip. If you're a pizza thrill-seeker, you should try the she wolf pizza (delve into the origin of the Italian name puttanesca to get the connection…) - dare you dive into a hazardous world of olive, anchovy and caper? Away from pizzas, the menu offers timeless, unadorned small and not so small dishes – some Italian classics, others a clever play on them – all simple food where taste is the ultimate goal.
