A beautiful all-rounder in Mairangi Bay, Paper Moon fits just about every occasion that comes to mind. Informal yet elegant, spacious yet atmospheric and typically Kiwi whilst boasting a European cosmopolitan quality, this eatery is North Shore's pride and joy.

But how can it be all these things at once? Well, thanks to their neutral and restrained dining hall, it boasts a subtle sophistication that doesn't overpower the space and leaves plenty of room for casual dining. The traditional bistro settings and streetside location are reminiscent of Europe's easy-going eateries and is elevated further by that inimitable Kiwi warmth. In short, Paper Moon is the best of all worlds and certainly deserves a spot on your bucket list.

The menu ventures to the dreamy landscapes and trattorias of Italia, delivering tasty morsels like spanner crab bruschetta, pumpkin arancini and chicken liver pate for starters. For a really Italian vibe, get a charcuterie board in; perfect for grazing, you'll have your pick of cured meats, local cheeses, dips and fresh bread.

As for the mains, Italy comes to the forefront once again with a parmesan-crusted snapper with kumara wedges, and homemade gnocchi that is elevated with truffle mushrooms and sage butter. Apart from that, Paper Moon hunkers down with the plates New Zealanders know and love like NZ pork belly with creamy mash, NZ lamb shank in a rich massaman curry and a selection of burgers that go far beyond your average pub hand-held. Just remember to leave some room for a homemade tiramisu or chocolate bomb. As the name suggests, it is the absolute bomb.
