It’s not the smallest area of Christchurch, but back in the day, it was a farming country paradoxically known as Cashmere - which now sounds kind of posh. These days it’s home to the Port Hills Cashmere winery, a golf club, and now the cool kids on the block, Protocol.
Reflecting its Cashmere roots, this big and funky restaurant is thick with smooth stones, tactile wood, cosy spaces, big open dining areas and the best part - nooks out and in the sun to spread out and relax (weather dependant!). Seriously though, it’s just as suitable for a romantic dinner as it is for large gatherings or a chilled luncheon; it’s clever enough to match whatever the theme or atmosphere.
If you grew up on colourful plates of deliciousness, you’ll feel right at home here. From fish tacos and steak (but that’s not all) to housemade gnocchi in a mild harissa sauce and miso salmon with soba noodle salad, this exquisite-food-but-easy philosophy works. And if you’re smiley, you’ll love the sharing plates - British-style.
What do you do after a meal that looks as good as it tastes? Wipe your plate and then look around. Protocol is homely, inviting, and refreshingly calming. Located five minutes from the CBD (and a train direct), that’s key for ensuring you’re back in the mashed avocado before it knows you’ve gone. Give it a try - everyone’s new favourite seems to be in Cashmere, darrrling.
Find out and then spread the word. Don’t forget to like and share our social pages and invite all your friends. Love, Protocol.
