Located in the heart of Auckland City, Gorilla Kitchen on Wellesley Street is a dining experience like no other. 100% plant-based and vegan, it offers an innovative, healthy and delicious approach to dining out.

Masquerading as cheeky carnivores, the Gorilla Kitchen team has mastered the art of creating 100% plant-based dishes that are as tempting as they are guilt-free. Comforting classics have all been given the Gorilla touch, from the signature 'chickun' wing, made with tempeh and smothered in vegan chipotle mayo, to the loaded fries that come with the lot - cream, bacon and cheese that are 100% plant-based of course.

For mains, Gorilla Kitchen delivers fresh salads, whole food bowls and a mix of gourmet pizzas. An ideal choice is the BBQ Chickun & Bakon Pizza: a fan of layers of smoky BBQ sauce, gorilla cheese, chicken and bacon pieces made from jackfruit and tempeh, and beefy strips, all topped with pickled chillies that will straighten your back (you're gonna need it).

Don't worry, they haven't forgotten to cater to those of you with a sweet tooth. All sodas and beers are vegan, and you can knock up one of their infamous milkshakes with any flavour of ice cream or whatever Liquorland might have.

In size, Gorilla Kitchen is modest - not too big, not too small, but with plenty of character - a bit like Auckland's very own Planet of the Apes. With high ceilings, large windows that let natural light flood in and funky animal murals it's a great place to visit for meat-eating guests who appreciate meatless Monday (and Tuesday and Wednesday). As for gorillas, well you'd like to think so.
